The City of Cape Town's successful bid for World Design Capital 2014 was coordinated by the Cape Town Partnership, in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders and supporters.
This week in Helsinki saw the opening of the International Design House Exhibition, a World Design Capital 2012 signature event, titled Everyday Discoveries. Housed in Helsinki's old power station, Kattilahalli - and extending into an outdoor shipping container village and urban gardening installation in surrounding Suvilahti - the exhibition showcases the best examples of design solutions from 23 countries, created by over 100 designers.

Cape Town was, on Friday 29 June, officially appointed World Design Capital 2014 with the signing of the Host City Agreement by Executive Mayor of the City of Cape Town, Alderman Patricia de Lille, and International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) President Soon-in Lee. This title will give Cape Town a chance to showcase its achievements and aspirations through a year-long programme of design-led events and activities as World Design Capital designees Seoul (2010) and Helsinki (2012) have done.
